AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Rumored Launch

There are rumors circulating that the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D will be launching sooner than expected. The company is aiming to make an announcement in October, with reviews and product availability expected within Q4 2024. This new chip combines the latest "Zen 5" microarchitecture with 3D V-cache technology, promising to enhance AMD's gaming performance compared to the 7800X3D, which is currently the fastest processor for gaming.

An alleged screenshot has surfaced showing the processor in action on Cinebench, revealing impressive clock speeds. The 9800X3D is said to have a 5.20 GHz all-core boost frequency and a 4.70 GHz base frequency.

Comparing these speeds to the current Ryzen 7 9700X processor without 3D V-cache, the 9700X has a 3.80 GHz base and 5.50 GHz maximum boost frequency. This would be the first time an X3D SKU has a higher base frequency than a regular SKU. For example, the 7800X3D has a 4.20 GHz base frequency compared to the 4.50 GHz of the 7700X.

Interestingly, the 5.20 GHz all-core boost frequency of the 9800X3D is similar to the all-core boost of the 9700X, which only reaches 5.50 GHz on lightly threaded workloads. It is yet to be seen what TDP and package power tracking (PPT) values AMD assigns to the 9800X3D, especially after having to add a 105 W cTDP mode via firmware to achieve up to a 10% performance gain over the original specs.
