Samsung Launches PM1763 PCIe 6.0 SSD for Next-Generation AI and HPC Servers
Samsung Electronics has announced the mass production of the PM1763, a PCIe 6.0-based enterprise solid state drive (SSD) engineered for advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) server environments. As AI workloads continue to expand in both scale and complexity, the demand for enterprise SSDs capable of delivering rapid and reliable data access has never been greater.
Industry-Leading Performance for AI Infrastructure
The Samsung PM1763 SSD is designed to meet the rigorous requirements of next-generation AI platforms. Leveraging a high-speed data transfer architecture and an optimized controller, the PM1763 delivers exceptional performance and reliability. According to Samsung, the drive has successfully completed validation for next-generation AI systems, positioning it as a critical component for evolving AI infrastructure.
Built with Samsung’s 9th-generation V-NAND technology and a newly developed 4-nanometer controller, the PM1763 achieves significant improvements in both speed and power efficiency. The SSD is available in 4TB, 8TB, and 16TB capacities. The flagship 16TB model offers sequential read speeds of up to 28,400 MB/s and write speeds of up to 21,900 MB/s—more than double the performance of its predecessor, the PM1753.
Optimized for AI Workloads and Data Centers
This level of performance enables the PM1763 to transfer a 40GB large language model (LLM) in approximately 1.4 seconds, significantly reducing data latency between processors and accelerators. This efficiency is crucial for minimizing bottlenecks and maximizing throughput in AI training and inference tasks.
The PM1763 is also engineered for modern data center environments, featuring direct-to-chip (D2C) liquid cooling technology. This innovation allows the SSD to maintain peak performance even under sustained, intensive workloads and extended operating conditions. Additionally, the PM1763 delivers over 1.8 times greater power efficiency compared to the previous generation, contributing to lower overall data center operating costs.
Enhanced Security for Future-Proof AI Applications
Recognizing the growing importance of data security in AI environments, Samsung has equipped the PM1763 with advanced security features. The drive supports post-quantum cryptography (PQC) algorithms, providing protection against emerging quantum computing threats. It also incorporates the TEE Device Interface Security Protocol (TDISP), which secures data pathways in virtualized environments, ensuring robust protection for sensitive information.
With its combination of high performance, energy efficiency, and advanced security, the Samsung PM1763 PCIe 6.0 SSD is set to play a pivotal role in supporting the next wave of AI and HPC innovation.
