AMD Releases Versal Premium Series Gen 2 SoC

AMD has unveiled its flagship FPGA series, the Versal Premium Series Gen 2 SoC, marking a significant product launch following the Xilinx acquisition. This new product is more than just an FPGA, with integrated devices, platform interfaces, and application-specific accelerators. Marketed as an "adaptive SoC," the Versal Premium Series Gen 2 boasts advanced features such as PCI-Express Gen 6 and CXL 3.1 support.

Designed to be future-ready, the chip supports DDR5 RDIMMs and LPDDR5X, catering to a wide range of applications in sectors like data centers, communications, aerospace, and defense. The FPGA component of the Versal Premium Series Gen 2 offers up to 3.27 million system logic cells, 1.49 million LUTs, and 7,616 DSP engines, making it ideal for demanding tasks that require high-speed data processing.

In addition to its impressive performance capabilities, the Versal Premium Series Gen 2 prioritizes security with features like PCIe Integrity and Data Encryption (IDE) and 400 Gbps Crypto Engines. Development tools for this innovative SoC will be available in 2025, with production slated for 2026.
