Compared to the Ryzen 7 9700X, which had a slow start, the new Ryzen 7 9800X3D "Zen 5" processor with 3D V-Cache is selling quickly. This processor is currently the fastest option for gaming enthusiasts who want top-of-the-line machines for the upcoming wave of GPUs expected in January 2025.
As of now, the 9800X3D is sold out on popular platforms like Newegg, Amazon, and Micro Center. However, it is still available through systems integrators and OEMs who likely secured their stock separately. On eBay, the processor is being resold at higher prices, a practice known as scalping. Prices range from $670 to $800.
There may be a limit to how much scalpers can charge for the 9800X3D, as potential buyers might opt for more affordable options like the 7800X3D, 7950X3D, or even switch to Intel's i9-14900K if the price is too high.
